About Barrie Food Bank

Overview

Barrie Food Bank is dedicated to providing emergency food assistance to individuals and families in need. Through their programs, they offer consultation and referral services to encourage self-sufficiency among their clients. Their focus is not only on addressing immediate hunger needs but also on empowering individuals to become more self-reliant in the long term. By offering support and resources, Barrie Food Bank aims to make a positive impact on the community and help alleviate food insecurity.

Mission

To provide temporary food relief to individuals and families of our community who are in need, and to serve as a resource to guide them along the road to self sufficiency.

Vision

Working towards a community where no one is hungry. Our policies are designed to achieve this mandate. To this end we seek to encourage self-sufficiency. In our service of those who come to us for assistance, we strive to demonstrate compassion and respect for their dignity, and to serve as a source of encouragement.

Unique value proposition

The Barrie Food Bank began in 1984 as an amalgamation of church based services to consolidate efforts in a central location for assisting those individuals and families in need. The organization currently serves more than 7,000 individuals each month, including 37% children. They have transitioned from pre-bagged groceries to a self-service shopping model that allows clients to choose items based on dietary needs, family size and composition, reducing food waste and adding more dignity to the experience.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about getting started.

How does WellFunded work?

Donor-advised funds, wealth advisors and foundations use WellFunded to find, research and fund Canadian charities. Instead of rewriting the same proposal for every funder, you complete one profile and it's ready for all of them. Fill in a few short sections and upload your annual report, and we'll turn it into an impact page funders can find by cause, location and program.

Do I need to apply for funding?

No. Funders search WellFunded for charities that match what they want to support, and your profile is what they find. When a funder wants to know more, you'll hear from us. Some funders also post Giving Opportunities for a specific focus, and you can respond to those with the profile you've already built.

What does it cost?

WellFunded is free for charities. We don't charge transaction fees, and we never take a cut of any gift. Funders pay to use the platform.

Who sees my profile?

Donor-advised funds, advisors and foundations using WellFunded to research charities. Together they manage over $2.3B in charitable assets. WellFunded isn't open to the general public.

What is a WellCheck?

When a funder is seriously considering your charity, they may ask for a WellCheck. It's a short set of questions plus a few documents, reviewed alongside your audited financials and CRA filings. We present findings, not verdicts: no scores and no rankings. Do it once, and it's ready for every funder who asks after that.

Is my information secure?

Yes. Your data stays in Canada, and we never sell it. See our privacy policy for details.

Is this legitimate?

WellFunded is a Canadian company, built in B.C. by the team behind one of Canada's first online donor-advised funds. If you'd like to meet us first, book a small group session with Jeff, our co-founder and CEO.
