About Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society

Overview

The Greater Vancouver Food Bank (GVFB) is not your average food bank. Distributing an average of 80% fresh, perishable food to people across Greater Vancouver and beyond, we are dedicated to providing healthy food to people in need. In partnership with food retailers and local farmers, the GVFB operates an integrated model with more than 80 full-time staff as well as a dedicated team of volunteers to capture surplus as well as purchase fresh food at scale, ensuring a consistent supply to 16,000 weekly clients and 160 local organizations that rely on us for support. In doing so, we recognize the opportunity to collaborate across the food supply chain to strengthen distribution networks and reduce food waste, improving local food systems and ensuring that high-quality food reaches people who need it most.

Unique value proposition

Since 2018, the GVFB has prioritized relationships with farmers and food retailers to capture and distribute fresh food to people in need. Fresh, nutritious food like fruit, vegetables, dairy, and protein supports wellbeing and is often out of reach due to high grocery costs. Thanks to these supplier relationships, we’re able to stretch every dollar, achieving an average buying power of 2:1 compared to grocery store prices, with ratios as high as 4:1 for apples and 12:1 for potatoes. This means your support goes significantly further in providing healthy food to people who need it most.

Instead of spending time on endless grant applications, you create a single, detailed profile that philanthropists and foundations can easily discover and fund.

Do I need to apply for funding through WellFunded?

Philanthropists can browse charity profiles, see your funding needs, and express interest directly—saving you countless hours. We are soon rolling out a "two click granting" tool where donors can set their granting preferences and matching charities are automatically surfaced.

What does it cost?

WellFunded charges philanthropists today. For charities, WellFunded offers a free tier, with plans for affordable paid options that provide enhanced visibility and engagement tools. There will always be a free tier.

How does WellFunded help my charity get discovered?

Instead of relying on cold proposals or personal networks, WellFunded helps you get in front of philanthropists actively looking to give in your area of impact.

How does WellFunded ensure trust and transparency?

Charity profiles include leadership information, financial data, and clear funding needs. Philanthropists can also see impact reports and follow giving activity of other donors.
