Overview
Since 1982, BC Children’s Hospital Foundation has driven transformative advancements as the single largest charitable funder of pediatric health care. By partnering with individual supporters, community fundraisers and corporate champions who refuse to accept limits on what’s possible, we fund innovative research, advanced technology and specialized programs. This investment gives medical teams and researchers the freedom to take calculated risks to pursue the bold ideas that will define tomorrow’s standards of care.
Our community of nearly 100,000 annual donors fuels this extraordinary progress. Together, we’re powering the possible to create healthier futures for children and a stronger society for us all.
Mission
Vision
We fundraise to provide children with excellence in health care beyond what the government supports. We champion the impact of our unique world-class leadership in child health and the critical need to continuously drive advancements, provincially and globally. We collaborate as one team with healthcare partners to work towards our shared vision for child and youth health. We inspire and nurture a community of proud, loyal supporters by enabling meaningful experiences and making it easy to contribute. We seek to amplify every dollar we raise for maximum impact and are effective, transparent and accountable stewards. We are united in our unwavering belief in our cause.
Values
Step up: Be accountable to yourself, the team and our shared cause; be a good partner.
Lead with heart: Listen, be kind and inclusive, respect the needs, voices and feelings of others; celebrate the journey.
Unique value proposition
BC Children’s serves a pediatric population of close to one million kids across more than one million square kilometres, the largest geographic region of any children’s hospital in North America. Over 50 per cent of patients come from outside the Vancouver Coastal Health region. The hospital also offers travelling and virtual outreach clinics and expanded telehealth programs to bring care closer to home.
More than 4,000 medical experts, including 2,000 research professionals, work at BC Children’s to tackle the most complex health challenges facing children and youth. The hospital is a global leader in pioneering breakthroughs that transform pediatric care. It was the first Canadian hospital to implant a new type of pacemaker in a newborn baby, launched the Clinical Trials Super Hub to ensure children have timely access to cutting-edge clinical trials, and leads the world in discovering rare diseases that have been completely unknown to medicine. These transformative “firsts” are reshaping how children are treated, here and around the world.
