About First Steps Housing Project Inc.

Overview

First Steps Housing Project Inc. continues to provide accommodations and care for single mothers and their babies. The charity also provides training in life skills for parenting teenagers and promotes a healthy pregnancy. They offer family counseling, proper nutrition guidance, budgeting finances, shopping assistance, meal planning, and school programs to allow completion of high school diplomas along with daycare facilities.

Mission

First Steps Housing Project Inc. exists to provide a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental residential environment for pregnant and parenting young women and their children who have no safe place to live. In partnership with the broader community, the organization offers wraparound services โ€” including life skills training, education, mental health support, addiction services, childcare, and family counselling โ€” to enable these young families to reach their full potential.

Vision

First Steps Housing Project Inc. envisions a future where pregnant and parenting young women and their children can achieve their full potential and life success. Guided by the motto 'Healthy moms. Healthy babies. Healthy futures.', the organization works toward a community where vulnerable young families are met with compassion, warmth, and non-judgment, and where sound stewardship, ethical practice, and creative program development ensure its relevance for those it serves well into the future.

Unique value proposition

First Steps Housing Project Inc. is the only organization of its kind in Atlantic Canada, making it a uniquely critical resource for the region's most vulnerable young families. Its fully integrated, holistic model โ€” combining 24/7 crisis-ready residential care, on-site education, childcare, mental health and addiction services, and a graduated housing pathway through Second Steps โ€” sets it apart from single-service providers. As a recognized partner in New Brunswick's provincial Poverty Reduction Strategy and a recipient of both provincial and federal funding, First Steps occupies a distinctive role at the intersection of housing, maternal health, and social equity.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about getting started.

How does WellFunded work?

Donor-advised funds, wealth advisors and foundations use WellFunded to find, research and fund Canadian charities. Instead of rewriting the same proposal for every funder, you complete one profile and it's ready for all of them. Fill in a few short sections and upload your annual report, and we'll turn it into an impact page funders can find by cause, location and program.

Do I need to apply for funding?

No. Funders search WellFunded for charities that match what they want to support, and your profile is what they find. When a funder wants to know more, you'll hear from us. Some funders also post Giving Opportunities for a specific focus, and you can respond to those with the profile you've already built.

What does it cost?

WellFunded is free for charities. We don't charge transaction fees, and we never take a cut of any gift. Funders pay to use the platform.

Who sees my profile?

Donor-advised funds, advisors and foundations using WellFunded to research charities. Together they manage over $2.3B in charitable assets. WellFunded isn't open to the general public.

What is a WellCheck?

When a funder is seriously considering your charity, they may ask for a WellCheck. It's a short set of questions plus a few documents, reviewed alongside your audited financials and CRA filings. We present findings, not verdicts: no scores and no rankings. Do it once, and it's ready for every funder who asks after that.

Is my information secure?

Yes. Your data stays in Canada, and we never sell it. See our privacy policy for details.

Is this legitimate?

WellFunded is a Canadian company, built in B.C. by the team behind one of Canada's first online donor-advised funds. If you'd like to meet us first, book a small group session with Jeff, our co-founder and CEO.
