About Aunt Leah's Independent Lifeskills Society
Overview
Aunt Leah's Independent Lifeskills Society is a non-profit organization that provides residential and supported housing for youth and marginalized mothers through Aunt Leah's House, Support Link, and Thresholds programs. Additionally, they offer employment and lifeskills training for youth and families through The Link Program. Their mission is to help prevent children in foster care from becoming homeless and mothers in need from losing custody of their children. Aunt Leah's envisions a future where all children and youth grow up in safe, nurturing, and permanent families.
Mission
Aunt Leah's helps prevent youth from foster care from becoming homeless and vulnerable young mothers from losing custody of their children. We provide supported housing, coaching on essential life skills and employment and education services.
Vision
We believe that every child should have the love and support that most families provide to their children through early adulthood. We embrace individuality, diversity, and care for each other. All behaviour has meaning and is the human tool for communication. Success is fragile and must be tended to and supported with care. Community building ensures that we all have a place to go when we need support.
Unique Value Proposition
We offer youth and mothers the time they need to stabilize, gain confidence, and create a safe environment that allows them to transition to stable housing and employment. Fifty percent of our programming, which receives no government funding, is unique. Rather than provide time-limited services, we offer flexible, holistic approach combined with the strengths and resilience of the young people themselves.
