About Canada Institute Of Linguistics

Overview

The Canada Institute of Linguistics (CanIL) offers training at Trinity Western University in Langley, BC, and at Tyndale University in Toronto, ON. As the only university-level institution of its kind in Canada, CanIL prepares people to serve alongside marginalized language communities through Bible translation, literacy, and language development in Canada and around the world.

Mission

Equip people to serve alongside marginalized communities through language development for the glory of God.

Vision

People from every culture in the world will see with their eyes, hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts the power of the gospel in their own language.

Values

Christianity (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Serving and supporting over two thousand language communities spiritually, socially and intellectually for the glory of God by helping them discover the gospel in their own language so their culture and people can find restoration.

Academics (Proverbs 2:6)
Embracing excellence in applied linguistics so minority-language speakers, their families, communities and cultures may flourish.

Networking (Romans 12:4-5)
Building a powerful community of Bible translators, linguists, language surveyors, software programmers, orthography developers, literacy specialists, ESL teachers and speech language pathologists who will make a difference - together.

Intentionality (1 Corinthians 14:9)
Understanding the nuances of each community and working alongside them in ways that honour their language and culture.

Language (Philippians 2:2-3)
Ethnolinguistic scholarship must be used carefully, responsibly and respectfully. Words are powerful. Especially God’s.

Unique Value Proposition

CanIL is the only university-level institution of its kind in Canada (one of two in North America) dedicated to preparing people for Bible translation, literacy, and language development work. We combine academic rigour, theological depth, and cross-cultural preparation to equip translators, linguists, and language workers for long-term service in Canada and around the world.

Everything you need to know about getting started

WellFunded eliminates the inefficiencies, inequities and ineffectiveness of traditional fundraising by centralizing and standardizing the process. Instead of spending time on endless grant applications, you create a single, detailed profile that philanthropists and foundations can easily discover and fund. Our other tools like our centralized due diligence tool and "2 click grants" (coming soon) build off of this core concept: that we can make things radically better by centralizing them on one common platform.

Philanthropists can browse charity profiles, see your funding needs, and express interest directly—saving you countless hours. We are soon rolling out a "two click granting" tool where donors can set their granting preferences and if your charity matches their preferences, you will automatically be notified in your dashboard, and can send your portrait onward right through to their WellFunded dashboard. Sort of like applying to a job through LinkedIn Easy Apply.

WellFunded charges philanthropists presently. For charities, WellFunded offers a free tier, with plans for affordable paid options that provide enhanced visibility and engagement tools. However, we will always have a free tier. We will introduce pricing once enough active donors use the platform to influence giving.

Instead of relying on cold proposals or personal networks, WellFunded helps you get in front of philanthropists actively looking to give in your area of impact. With advanced search tools and standardized due diligence, your work speaks for itself—helping you build trust and attract new donors.

Charity profiles include leadership information, financial data, and clear funding needs. Philanthropists can also see impact reports and follow the giving activity of other donors, creating a more open and transparent ecosystem.

Yes. WellFunded prioritizes data security and does not sell or share your private information outside the platform.
