The International Development Research Centre (IDRC) was created by Parliament in 1970 with a commitment to supporting research in developing countries conducted by the people of those countries for their own development. IDRC focuses on three program areas: Agriculture and Environment (AE), Inclusive Economies (IE), and Technology and Innovation (TI). The majority of IDRC's grants support researchers in developing countries, often affiliated with non-governmental organizations, universities, community groups, and governments in low-income countries. A portion of IDRC grants also support individuals from Canada and other countries to collaborate with researchers in developing countries to address pressing issues and drive positive change.
