About Miskanawah Community Services Association
Overview
Miskanawah Community Services Association is a non-profit organization in Calgary that is guided by Indigenous teachings and provides evidence-informed supportive services to strengthen individuals, families, communities, and cultures. Their programs include Mahmawi-atoskiwin, which focuses on keeping Indigenous children with their families whenever possible, Healthy Families and Indigenous Healthy Families/Nehiyaw Kihokewin for home visitation services, Indigenous Mentor Homes for Indigenous youth in care, and Oskipmatsahk for mentoring after care. They also offer Regional After-Hours Youth Support, Nitsanak Mamawintowak for home visitation for Indigenous families, and Miskanawah for healing from inter-generational trauma through traditional, cultural, and therapeutic supports. Additionally, they have Diamond Willow Youth Lodge for Indigenous youth to gather for healing and connection, Oskayapewis for youth leadership development, and various Indigenous cultural activities.

Community: Miskanawah centers its practice in the establishment of community as a means of creating natural supports. Respect: Miskanawah practices respect by honouring staff and client knowledge of themselves, encouraging honest and non-judgmental listening. Trust: Miskanawah understands the responsibility of working with vulnerable populations.
Unique Value Proposition
Miskanawah creates ethical space between Indigenous and Western knowledge systems, guided by Wahkotiwin (Cree Natural Law of interconnection and kinship). All programs are rooted in traditional Indigenous teachings while providing evidence-informed services, making it a leader in reconciliation efforts and culturally responsive service delivery.
