The Strathcona Food Bank Association operates a food bank that provides food hampers to residents of Strathcona County who are experiencing financial difficulties. Mission
To provide residents of Strathcona County who are having financial difficulties with a food hamper that provides 7 days of nutritionally balanced meals.
Vision
Aligned with Food Banks Canada and Food Banks Alberta, the organization believes that everyone in Strathcona County has the right to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food which meets their dietary needs and food preferences. Their ethical food banking code includes providing food and assistance regardless of race, national or ethnic origin, citizenship, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, income source, age, and mental or physical ability; treating all those who access services with dignity and respect; implementing best practices in food storage and handling; respecting privacy and maintaining confidentiality; and recognizing that food banks are not a viable long-term response to hunger.
