Overview

The Toronto Summer Music Foundation is dedicated to promoting classical music through a variety of programs and events. Due to COVID-19, the foundation shifted to holding online festivals, featuring mainstage concerts, masterclasses, kids concerts, and more. They also provide opportunities for Academy and Community Academy members to participate in various activities. Moving forward, the foundation plans to incorporate digital platforms for broadcasting concerts and expanding their reach to a global audience.

Mission

Toronto Summer Music Foundation exists to enrich lives through the shared appreciation of music by operating a world-class classical music festival alongside a rigorous training academy. Its two-fold, interconnected mission is to present outstanding performances by internationally renowned artists and to provide high-level training and performance opportunities for emerging musicians and passionate adult amateurs, thereby actively promoting engagement between musicians and their audiences.

Toronto Summer Music envisions a world where classical music serves as a vital, shared experience that connects communities, bridges generations, and fosters meaningful relationships between artists and audiences. It aspires to be a preferred destination for emerging vocal and chamber musicians globally, while deepening the role of music in the daily lives of amateur musicians and the broader Toronto community.

TSM's defining distinction is its fully integrated model that unites a public-facing professional festival with a tuition-free emerging artist academy and a structured community program for adult amateurs โ€” creating a rare ecosystem where world-class performers, emerging musicians, and passionate non-professionals share the same artistic environment. All accepted Academy Fellows attend tuition-free, with fellowship donors covering tuition, accommodation, and per diem expenses, removing financial barriers to elite training. This cross-pollinating structure, recognized with the Association of Fundraising Professionals' Mo Davies Award for Excellence in Fundraising, positions TSM as the only summer classical music festival of its kind in Toronto and one of the most distinctive in North America.

How does WellFunded work?

Donor-advised funds, wealth advisors and foundations use WellFunded to find, research and fund Canadian charities. Instead of rewriting the same proposal for every funder, you complete one profile and it's ready for all of them. Fill in a few short sections and upload your annual report, and we'll turn it into an impact page funders can find by cause, location and program.

Do I need to apply for funding?

No. Funders search WellFunded for charities that match what they want to support, and your profile is what they find. When a funder wants to know more, you'll hear from us. Some funders also post Giving Opportunities for a specific focus, and you can respond to those with the profile you've already built.

What does it cost?

WellFunded is free for charities. We don't charge transaction fees, and we never take a cut of any gift. Funders pay to use the platform.

Who sees my profile?

Donor-advised funds, advisors and foundations using WellFunded to research charities. Together they manage over $2.3B in charitable assets. WellFunded isn't open to the general public.

What is a WellCheck?

When a funder is seriously considering your charity, they may ask for a WellCheck. It's a short set of questions plus a few documents, reviewed alongside your audited financials and CRA filings. We present findings, not verdicts: no scores and no rankings. Do it once, and it's ready for every funder who asks after that.
